After a five-game varsity season in 1940 the program went on hiatus during WWII before being revived under former UM football star Eddie Dunn. Dunn was tasked with bringing both the baseball and basketball programs back to the varsity level. Dunn led the Hurricanes baseball team to an overall record of 82-73-2 during his tenure from 1946 to 1954. The team’s best season under his guidance came in 1947, going 11-2.
